Intervention Services

Intervention

As part of our efforts to help all students meet with success Bridgewater-Raritan follows a framework called Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Multi-tiered Systems of Support is a framework to support ALL students in grades K-12. It’s built on the shared belief that all students can learn if given equitable opportunities to do so, and on the premise that the following are already in place:

  • Strong, evidence-based instructional practices;

  • Meaningful assessments and data systems;

  • Collaborative problem solving practices;

  • Fidelity in implementation.

As we work to create a strong framework and provide effective instruction and interventions for our students, the questions below provide us with overall guidance as students are referred for intervention.

Problem Solving Process
What is the problem?
Why is the problem occurring?
What should we do?
Is the solution working?

Tiers of Support

This system includes standards-based instruction for all students, as well as supplemental and intensive intervention for students who need additional help in the areas of social/emotional, behavioral and academic learning.

Tiers of Support

MTSS is comprised of three tiers:

  • Tier 1 (Core)  is regular, standards-based instruction, provided by the classroom teacher.

  • Tier 2 (Supplemental) involves small group instruction, where identified skill areas are addressed to ensure that students understand and can be successful with Tier 1 classroom instruction. Tier 2 instruction may be provided by the classroom teacher, an intervention specialist or the school counselor.

  • Tier 3 (Intensive) includes additional services with a focus on individual needs. An action plan is developed by the school team. Tier 3 interventions vary by grade level.
