Veteran supervisor Annemarie Mattia steps into new role at BRRSD

 When the new position of Director of Elementary Education was created in 2022 by the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District, the role was filled by a highly skilled and experienced supervisor---Annemarie Mattia.

Annemarie stepped into the new position in July 2022 after she had served as the Supervisor of Professional Development/Practice for the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve Bridgewater-Raritan in this role. My new position will include oversight of programming, curriculum and instruction,” Annemarie explained.

She had worked as the Supervisor of Professional Development/Practice from March of 2020 until June. But now, she is quite excited to start in her new position.

In her new position, she will work closely with Karen Jones, who is the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Annemarie will serve as a leader and resource person in matters that relate to elementary instructional programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, evaluation, scheduling and state and federal reporting. Other responsibilities include supervising the implementation of instructional programs that include English as a Second Language (ESL), Gifted and Talented and Multi-tiered Systems of Support. She will also coordinate the process of curricular resource evaluation of programs, textbooks, books and digital tools.

Her background in supervising in the educational system led to her present role.

Annemarie served as the Supervisor of Science/Social Studies for Grades K-5 for our school district from 2017 through February of 2020. That task came after she worked in the Middlesex School District in Middlesex Borough as the Supervisor of Elementary Education for Grades K-8.

She launched her educational career in 2001 for the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District as the Elementary Teaching Specialist at the Van Holten School. From 2006 through 2016, Annemarie was an Elementary Teaching Specialist at our school’s district’s Milltown School. She began teaching fourth and sixth grade in upstate New York in 1993 before coming to Bridgewater-Raritan.

Annemarie, who grew up in New York state, gained a Masters in Reading from the State University of New York at Albany and her Bachelors degree in Early Secondary Education from the State University of New York at Cortland. She earned her Supervisor certification from Rutgers University and her Principal certification through NJEXCEL.

 

The resident of Bridgewater has been married to her husband, Patrick for 27 years, and they have two children. Nicholas, who is 20 and was a 2020 graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School, is entering his junior year as a major in Construction Management at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. Marisol, who is 17, will enter her senior year at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
