Pay rate to rise for school district substitutes in 2023

Working as a substitute teacher and staff member in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District will be an enticing opportunity once the calendar turns to the year 2023.

The pay rate for substitutes was raised and approved by the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District’s Board of Education during its November 15  public meeting.

Dr. Daniel Fonder, the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel for the school district, explained the purpose of the pay increase.

“Our substitute teachers are dedicated professionals who serve our district by ensuring the continuity of a safe and caring learning environment when one of our staff members is absent,” Dr. Fonder stated. “ I am thankful for the commitment of all district staff and wanted to take a moment to recognize our substitutes while announcing the new rates of pay.”

Here are the pay rates that will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

Teacher: $140 per day.

Teacher Assistant: $140 per day.

Secretary: $105 per day.

Cafeteria/Play Assistant: $15 per hour.

These new rates, according to Dr. Fonder, could serve as a prime recruiting tool to attract substitutes to the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.

“In addition to thanking our current substitute staff for their service to our school district, I also wanted to confirm that the district is actively looking to add individuals to our substitute pool,” Dr. Fonder said.
